On 9th January 2026, Msilikali SACCO proudly attended the 2026 MDF Cross Country Competition held at Gymkhana Golf Club in Zomba. A total of 234 soldiers competed in the demanding 10 kilometre race, showcasing remarkable strength, endurance, and discipline.
The event was presided over by the Deputy MDF Commander, Lieutenant General Kondwani Gift Kalino, who represented the MDF Commander, General George Jafu. In his remarks, Lt. Gen. Kalino highlighted that the cross country competition aims to bring athletes together, assess their physical fitness, and promote teamwork among soldiers. He further emphasized the importance of maintaining both physical and mental fitness as key pillars of military readiness.
In the men’s category, Cpl. Kafesi Kasten emerged victorious, completing the race in an impressive time of 33:39 and walking away with a cash prize of MK1,000,000. In the women’s category, L/Cpl Asimenye Simwaka claimed first place with an outstanding time of 43:59, also earning MK1,000,000. The second and third-place finishers in both categories received cash prizes of MK700,000 and MK500,000 respectively.
The competition attracted athletes from various MDF units, highlighting fierce competition and a strong spirit of sportsmanship throughout the event.
