On 29th and 30th July 2026, Msilikali SACCO (MSACCO) had the privilege of hosting a delegation from Dikwata SACCO of Botswana, a savings and credit cooperative serving members of the Botswana Defence Force (BDF). The visit formed part of a Job Shadowing Exchange Programme, aimed at fostering knowledge sharing, exchanging best practices, and strengthening cooperation between the two defence-based financial cooperatives.
The delegation commenced its visit with a courtesy call on the Malawi Defence Force Headquarters at Kamuzu Barracks, where they were officially welcomed. The courtesy visit underscored the longstanding relationship between the two defence institutions and reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting institutional learning and collaboration.
The exchange programme provided an opportunity for both institutions to share experiences, learn from each other’s successes, and discuss strategies for enhancing the sustainability and growth of defence-based financial cooperatives.
Some of the key topics covered during the exchange visit included:
- Governance, Leadership, and Risk Management
- Open Bond Membership Strategy, Membership Growth, and Product Innovation
- Digital Transformation for Effective Service Delivery
- Youth and Women’s Inclusion, Outreach, and Empowerment
- Strategic Investments, Subsidiary Management, and Business Diversification
- Employer–SACCO Partnerships and Institutional Relations
The exchange programme reaffirmed the importance of collaboration among defence-based SACCOs in generating new insights on innovation, strengthening governance, and facilitating the exchange of skills, knowledge, and best practices that contribute to sustainable growth and enhanced service delivery for members.
The visiting delegation also toured our Lilongwe Branch (Kamuzu Barracks) and Salima Branch, where they had the opportunity to appreciate the branch operations, interact with staff, and gain firsthand insight into the initiatives and services being delivered to members. The visit provided an opportunity to showcase the progress and achievements of both branches while fostering the exchange of ideas and experiences.
