
Msilikali SACCO held its 7th Annual General Meeting from 29 to 30 April 2025 at Linde Hotel in Mponela under the theme “Navigating Uncertainties and Building Resilience Through the SACCO Business Model.” The theme describes Msilikali SACCO`s commitment to implement programs that support its members and maintaining financial stability and adaptability while recognising the uncertainties that exist in its operating environment.
The event was graced by Lt. General George A. Jaffu, Deputy Commander of the Malawi Defence Force, as Guest of Honour, alongside key stakeholders including Registrar of Cooperatives Mr. Limbikani Kachiweya and MUSCCO Central Finance Facility Manager Mr. Ezekiel Thindwa.
In his address, MSACCO Chairperson Col. Alinine Simwaka highlighted 2024 as a year of resilience and growth, reaffirming MSACCO’s position as Malawi’s second-largest SACCO with assets reaching K9.9 billion. He outlined 2025 priorities, including financial education, mergers and acquisitions, technology adoption, performance improvements, and enhanced governance. He also proposed expanding membership beyond MDF and civil servants to promote broader financial inclusion.
Lt. General George Jaffu, speaking on behalf of MDF Commander General Dr. Paul Valentino Phiri, commended MSACCO for its exceptional service and commitment to financial inclusion, especially for women and youth in MDF cantonments. He urged MSACCO to enhance financial literacy initiatives and empower members to make informed, sustainable financial decisions. Acknowledging Malawi’s economic challenges, the Guest of Honour encouraged the SACCO to continue offering affordable, accessible, and member-focused financial services while embracing innovation to protect and grow members’ investments.
He concluded by reaffirming MDF Management’s support through a conducive operating environment, technical guidance, timely deductions, and member recruitment efforts.
A notable highlight of the AGM was the recognition of outstanding members and coordinators for their dedication and commitment to MSACCO’s mission. Major General Alick Bentry Mhone (Rtd) was honored as the Overall Best Saver and received a full solar system in recognition of his exceptional savings culture and unwavering support for the SACCO’s vision.
Additional awards were presented in the following categories; Best Saver – Youth, Best Saver – MDF, Best Saver – MDAs, Best Saver – Women Group and Best Coordinator. All category winners received cash prizes as a token of appreciation for their exemplary performance, further reinforcing MSACCO’s dedication to promoting and rewarding a strong culture of savings and financial discipline among its members.
