Senior Credit Officer (MSME & Community Lending) – Head Office

Msilikali SACCO (MSACCO) an afiliate of Malawi Union of Savings & Credit Cooperatives Ltd (MUSCCO), is a member owned and democratically controlled financial cooperative society that aims at providing quality and affordable financial services to its members; drawn from the Malawi Defence Force (MDF) and other Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Therefore, Msilikali SACCO invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for the following position tenable at its Head Office and branches

Senior Credit Officer (MSME & Community Lending) – Head Office

Report to the Credit Manager, shall be responsible for the growth, quality, and management of MSACCO’s non-payroll loan portfolio

 Duties and Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough onsite appraisals of MSMEs, Community Groups and business premises to verify existence and cash flow.
  • Assess repayment capacity through income analysis, cash flow review, and alternative security.
  • Assess the creditworthiness of community groups (Village Banks) by evaluating group dynamics, leadership, and joint liability structures.
  • Evaluate collateral/securities for business loans, ensuring they meet MSACCO’s legal and valuation standards
  • Appraise and manage loans granted to spouses and dependents of payroll members in line with MSACCO policy.
  • Manage loans granted to retired employees and assess alternative income sources for repayment capacity.
  • Develop and implement collection strategies for members who pay via mobile money, bank transfers, or over-the-counter (non-payroll).
  • Lead the recovery process for delinquent accounts within the MSME and individual segments
  • Liaise with Internal Recoveries teams or external debt collectors or legal counsel, when necessary, while maintaining MSACCO’s community reputation.
  • Prepare and submit regular portfolio performance, risk, and quality reports to management.

Qualifications & Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Professional Credit Management certification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in SME lending, individual lending, or microfinance, preferably in a SACCO or financial institution.
  • Strong credit appraisal and cash flow analysis skills
  • Good understanding of SME lending risks
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-management skills
  • Strong analytical judgment and attention to detail
